Description
L-shaped aboriginal hunting weapon with a carved upper tip, resembling the tail of a rattlesnake. Cross hatch design near top of handle. Used by Dick-a-Dick on his Tour to England with the Aboriginal Australian Cricket team.
Display caption
One of the most popular displays put on by the Aboriginal cricketers after the close of play involved Dick-a-Dick using this club, variously described as a nulla-nulla, a leowel or leangle, to defend himself from cricket balls thrown at him from a distance of a few yards. He showed tremendous skill at this and reports of his being hit are few in number. Carved from a single piece of wood with label describing the part played by Dick-a-Dick in his displays of boomerang throwing.
