Описание
Navy blue, MCC/England touring cap with beige, silk lining. Small peak, no crown button. Motif: Embroidered. White, St. George and the Dragon embroidered in white. Maker’s label with name written below ‘G O Allen’.
No uniforms are known to have survived from the 1903 tour and the blazer here displayed is the earliest in the MCC’s collection. It is inscribed 1931 but Burton only toured with MCC in 1912 and 1913, suggesting the labelling was in error.
The famous symbol on the MCC cap was worn from 1903 onward with only slight variations in the design. Letters do survive in the Club’s collection which detail the recommendations of the Office of Heraldry to MCC as to the choice of symbol. The royal Coat of Arms (see cap of 1901-2) was seemingly not an option, and the George and Dragon, notable from its use on the sovereign, was MCC’s final choice.
