Lord's Cricket Ground viewed from the top of `G’ stand during the MCC v Rest of the World match staged in celebration of MCC’s Bicentenary in August 1987. The five-day match featured many of the world’s greatest players and produced some thrilling batting, but was affected by poor weather, the final day’s play being washed out entirely. Gordon Greenidge’s second innings century for MCC earned him a unique accolade: a place on the Honours Boards in both dressing rooms.
The skyline is dominated by the Michael Hopkins-designed Mound Stand, itself a celebratory commission for 1987. Built above the brick arches of Frank Verity’s original 19th century stand, it took inspiration for its renowned canopies from the upper tier of the Pavilion.
