Arthur Weaver (1918 – 2008)
Oil on canvas
A view of the 1980 Centenary Test match at Lord's Cricket Ground depicted from the then Mound Stand. The match was played between England and Australia to mark the centenary of the very first Test match played in England. The painting documents the original Warner Stand (1958-2015), flanked by the Pavilion stand (1890-) and Grandstand.
Since graduating from the Hornsey School of Art, British artist Arthur Weaver painted many sporting scenes and was famed for his paintings of championship golf courses both in Britain and in the USA.
Originals hang at St Andrews and in the USGA Museum and many have been successfully reproduced as limited edition prints.
