Probably the greatest Indian batsman of the preTendulkar era, Sunil Gavaskar amassed 34 Test
centuries over his 125 Test career and became the first
man to complete more than 10,000 Test runs in a
career. Although none of his Test hundreds came at
Lord’s, he was a member of the side that won the World
Cup here in 1983 and also scored 188 for the Rest of
the World against MCC in the 1987 Bicentenary match.
It was Gavaskar’s final first-class appearance.
