The dinner took place at Southampton Civic Centre. Side B: [0:00-17:00] Viscount Monckton, president of Surrey County Cricket Club, makes a speech with anecdotes about the history of Hampshire cricket, Lord Frederick Beauclerk, F E Lacey, Ronald Aird, E G Wynyard, R M Poore, A C Johnston, C P Mead, the Hampshire team which won the County Championship in 1961 including R E Marshall, A C D Ingleby-Mackenzie and Derek Shackleton, E D R Eagar, H S Altham, C B Fry and proposes a toast 'Cricket and the Champion County', [17:00-19:10] H S Altham, president of Hampshire County Cricket Club, responds to the toast, and makes a speech. Side A: [0:00-19:03] Altham continues with his speech thanking Eagar and the Mayor of Southampton for arranging the dinner, pays tribute to Monckton and Lord Birkett who was initially due to make a speech but died before the dinner, and talks about William Beldham, Robert Robinson (the inventor of the first batting pads), the donkey purchased to pull the heavy roller at Day's (Antelope) Ground in Southampton, the Gentlemen of Hampshire vs. Australian Aboriginals match in 1868, Lionel Tennyson, the Hampshire team which won the County Championship in 1961, and talks about the aims of Hampshire's Centenary Appeal launched in 1962, already receiving donations from the Southern Evening Echo and John Waite, and reports on the progress of the appeal. The record's label suggests the dinner took place in 1964 but the dinner was held in 1962. Side B on the recording comes before Side A.
