- HistoryMichael Melford was born in St Johns Wood in 1916 and died in Gerrard’s Cross in 1999. He studied at Oxford from 1935 to 1938 where he received multiple Blues for athletics. He was a sports journalist and mainly wrote on cricket, although he did cover some rugby union and athletics events. He wrote for the Daily Telegraph from 1950 and also for the Sunday Telegraph, from when it launched in 1961, until his retirement.
