Biography on reverse reads: "Maurice W. Tate (Sussex) Making his debut for Sussex in 1912, Tate became prominent after the War. Played v. Australia in twenty consecutive matches from 1924-25, in which season he took 38 Test wickets - record. Also toured India (1926-27) and South Africa (1930-31). Has scored over 1,000 runs and taken over 100 wickets in eight successive seasons, his best season being 1925 with 1,290 runs and 228 wickets. Highest score - 203 for Sussex v. Northamptonshire."
