Curator’s (Diana Rait Kerr; Stephen Green) correspondence relating to paintings “Cricket in the Artillery Ground 1743” and “A Cricket Match at Mary-le-bone Fields” by Francis Hayman. File contains an MCC Christmas card with “A Cricket Match at Mary-le-bone Fields” reproduction, article “The art of Francis Hayman” (Country Life, 14 October 1954) and “Londoners Diary” (The Standard, 20 June 1983). Subjects include queries regarding the MCC’s acquisition of the paintings, response to enquiry from the Royal Academy (Ernest E V Wright, Librarian) about the titles of the paintings, the sale of 24 of Hayman’s paintings from Vauxhall Gardens in 1841, the reproduction of “Cricket in the Artillery Ground 1743” in “Waghorn”, a response from the Curator to the article in Country Life and a response from the Curator to the article in The Standard.
