Portrait of Sachin Tendulkar (b.1973), 2007
Stuart Pearson Wright
Preparatory sketch
Charcoal on paper
Drawn from life at home, former Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar sketched by British artist Stuart Pearson Wright in Mumbai; where he also depicted Kapil Dev, Bishan Bedi and Dilip Vengsarkar to honour the 75th anniversary of the first All India Test tour to England in 1932.
Tendulkar made his Test match debut against Pakistan at the age of sixteen and was part of the Indian team that won the 2011 Cricket World Cup. He has received multiple honours and awards for his contribution to cricket.
A superstar his entire adult life, the artist observed a fame that deifies the talented batsman and a life designed by others, he said: ‘Tendulkar revealed that he loved coming to London because few people recognised him’.
