Black lacquer box with painted cricket scene after Francis Hayman’s ‘Cricket in the Artillery Ground’ framed by a geometric design on lid.
The design follows closely Francis Hayman's picture of Cricket in the Artillery Ground, 1743; except that there are only nine figures instead of twelve and there is more blue colouring in their clothing.
