Biography on reverse reads: "X. L. Balaskas (Western Province) Born Oct. 15th, 1910, in Kimberley. Played for Griqualand West at the age 15. Slow spin bowler of considerable ability. After a successful run of batting and bowling in the 1929-30 Currie Cup matches, toured Australia, but only played against New Zealand, when he scored 5 and 122 not out. In 1935, he had a considerable share in England's defeat at Lord's, taking a total of 9 wickets for 103 in both innings. Has batted in 6 Tests."
