Cigarette card depicting a coloured illustrated head and shoulders portrait of Leslie Townsend. He is wearing a white shirt, blue blazer and blue Derbyshire cap with crowned rose crest on the front. Series No.45.
Biography on reverse reads: "L. Townsend (Derbyshire). Townsend, who first played county cricket when 19, has in five seasons become one of Derbyshire's best all-rounders. Getting a place in the side as a batsman, he steadily improved with the ball, and last year, by taking 66 wickets besides scoring 564 runs, he materially helped Derbyshire in their highly successful season. His medium-paced right-hand easy delivery makes the ball swerve and go last from the pitch, with an occasional off-break. More patience in playing himself in should improve Townsend's batting, as he possesses punishing power with plenty of strokes."
