Made over 1000 runs in 1904 and has repeated the achievement several times since, was top in 1914 with 1258 to his credit, highest score being 252 not out v. Northants. In the County Championship Matches, 1922 season scored 1170 runs (average 32 1/2 runs), and held 2nd place; made two centuries the same year:-128 v. Somerset and 117 v. Lancashire."
