The entire recording is written and narrated by E W Swanton, who tells the story of cricket at Lord's from 1787 to 1990. The recording was produced by John Stanley, and contains commentary throughout from the BBC, including commentators L T J Arlott, A R Alston, C D A Martin-Jenkins and H C Blofeld. Side One is 43 minutes 58 seconds long and begins with Sir Don Bradman, Clive Lloyd and Colin Cowdrey talking about playing at Lord's, and Swanton then talks about Thomas Lord and the founding of Lord's Cricket Ground in 1787, the move to Lord's third ground in 1814, and the history of the Nursery Ground. This side consists of the following anecdotes and commentary: 1. F A MacKinnon of Cambridge University recalls F C Cobden of Cambridge's last over in the 1870 Varsity match against Oxford at Lord's, in which Cambridge won on the last ball. 2. P F Warner talks about his first memories of visiting Lord's and the changes that had taken place at Lord's since he first visited the ground, the Warner Stand which was named after him, and Warner talks about winning the County Championship at Lord's with Middlesex against Surrey in 1920. 3. E H Hendren talks about the Middlesex vs. Surrey County Championship match in 1920. 4. Sir Charles Tennyson describes Grace's performance in the Gentlemen vs. Players match of 1898. 5. C J Kortright recalls advice given to him by Grace when playing for Gentleman vs. Players in 1898. 6. F E Woolley talks about his innings of 93 and 95 for England against Australia in 1921, which he believed to be his best innings. 7. Swanton talks about G O Allen's feat of taking all ten wickets for Middlesex against Lancashire in 1929, and the decision to name the Q Stand after Allen, and G and H stands after D C S Compton and W J Edrich. 8. Bradman talks about his best innings for Australia against England at Lord's in 1930 (scoring 254) and Swanton talks about the match and Bradman's innings. 9. Howard Marshall commentates on the end of the England vs. Australia Test match at Lord's in 1934 for the BBC, when Hedley Verity took 15 wickets in the match. 10. X C Balaskas talks about taking 9-103 in South Africa's first Test win in England in 1935. 11. S C Griffith of Cambridge University talks about keeping wicket when Jehangir Khan of Cambridge hit a sparrow when bowling to T N Pearce of MCC at Lord's in 1936. 12. Neville Cardus talks about W R Hammond's score of 240 for England against Australia at Lord's in 1938, and Swanton recalls his memories of the match and F E Woolley. 13. Rex Alston of the BBC commentates on K R Miller's century for the Dominions against England at Lord's in 1945. 14. MCC Curator S E A Green talks about the MCC Museum. 15. G S Sobers makes his last Test century in 1973, and a bomb scare occurs during the England vs. West Indies Test match in 1973. 10. India are bowled out for 42 against England in 1974. 11. Commentary on C H Lloyd making a century in the first Prudential World Cup Final, and the last-wicket partnership between Lillee and Thomson in the match. 12. Commentary on David Steele's innings for England against Australia in 1975. 13. Commentary on A W Greig's innings for England against Australia in 1975. 14. Bob Woolmer scores a century for England against Australia in 1977. 15. Mike Llewellyn of Glamorgan hits the commentary box during the Gillette Cup Final in 1977, and Albert Trott's six that went over the Pavilion is recalled by Joe Filliston.
