The artist of the painting is unknown and as the picture formed part of the Colman bequest its authenticity has been challenged. It may be that the well-documented reputation and recognisable landscape of Moulsey Hurst proved useful to a Paddington forger creating works at a much later date. (Is this correct?- ALC)
