Commemorative Handkerchief of Australian Tourists to the UK, 1882 M.1984.TN.65

Australian tours to the UK after that of 1868 met with some surprise, as many expected them also to be Aboriginal, but it was of greater consternation that in 1882 the Australians beat England in England for the first time. This was the tour that spawned the great `Ashes’ tradition, when a journalist placed a mock obituary in the Sporting Times, lamenting the death of English Cricket.
