Biography on reverse reads: "Fender, P. G. H., Surrey. Born, 1892; has captained Surrey since 1921, visited Australia with the M.C.C. 1920-21, played in Test Matches at home twice in 1921 and toured S. Africa with F. T. Mann, 1922-23. A powerful, quick scoring batsman and a clever bowler; is also a brilliant captain, combining courage with discretion. Scored heavily in 1922, delighting the public with his marvellous scoring powers."
