At the age of 42 he is still a reliable right-handed first-wicket batsman and a useful slow left-hand bowler. An innings of 249 not out against Leicestershire in 1922, is the highest of his 63 three-figure scores, while he has four times made more than 2,000 runs in a season, and on four occasions put together two centuries in a match. He played once for England against Australia-at Leeds in 1921-and has been represented his country at Soccer."
