Biography on reverse reads: "Mr. V. W. C. Jupp (Northamptonshire) The best all-round amateur cricketer of the day. Jupp began his county career in 1911 as a professional for Sussex, but after the War played as an amateur. Became Secretary of Northamptonshire in 1921, and has since rendered yeoman service to that county. In 1921 he scored 2,169 runs and took 121 wickets, twice playing for England against Australia. Toured South Africa in 1922-23. Drives with great power on a fast wicket, and when occasion demands offer a stubborn defence. His ability to suit his style to existing conditions makes his slow-medium spin bowling very effective. Has performed cricketer's "double"-1,000 runs and 100 wickets-on five occasions."
