Cigarette card depicting a coloured illustrated head and shoulders portrait of Jack Mercer. He is wearing a white shirt and blue blazer. Series No.33.
Biography on reverse reads: "J. Mercer (Glamorgan). Failing to obtain a regular place in the Sussex eleven, Mercer qualified for Glamorgan, and in 1925 took 92 wickets. Next season, dismissing 119 batsmen for 15 runs each, he finished third in the English bowling averages. Went to India with the M.C.C. team of 1926-27. Last summer in the final stage of the sensational match which robbed Notts of the Championship, he claimed six wickets for 31. His season's record was 100 at 19 runs each. Nearly six feet tall, Mercer resembles Tate in style, though not so fast and is very effective with a new ball."
